Akita's Philosophy of Real Rose Water

Akita's Philosophy of Real Rose Water

Every year, millions of liters of rose water are produced around the world.

But have you ever wondered why they are all so different?

Some have a strong rose fragrance, while others have almost no scent at all. Some lose their freshness within a few months, while others maintain their natural quality for years. Some simply leave the skin feeling refreshed, while others become an essential part of a daily skincare routine.

We began searching for the answer nearly thirty years ago.

While working among the rose fields of Isparta, Türkiye, we realized something important:

People weren't simply looking for rose water—they wanted to bring the essence of the rose itself to their skin.

Traditionally, the primary goal of rose distillation has been to obtain rose essential oil. Once the oil is separated, the remaining aromatic water is commonly marketed as rose water.

We asked a different question.

Could we preserve as much of the rose's naturally occurring aromatic character as possible in a product that people could enjoy every single day?

That question became the starting point of years of research and development.

Rose oil is one of nature's most precious botanical ingredients. However, it is extremely concentrated, used only in tiny amounts, relatively expensive, and often requires dilution before topical application.

Rose distillate, on the other hand, is remarkably practical. It can be used throughout the day as a facial mist, toner, or refreshing part of a daily skincare routine.

Our goal was to create a product that captures the integrity of the rose in a form that is simple, gentle, and suitable for everyday use.

That vision eventually led to what Akita now calls Rose Distillate.

Our production process uses only two ingredients:

  • Rosa damascena flowers

  • Water

Using traditional copper stills and an extended distillation process, we carefully produce a botanical distillate while preserving the natural character of the rose as much as possible.

Today, Akita does more than produce natural rose distillate.

We also produce our own pure rose essential oil using traditional methods. Because, in our philosophy, these are not competing products—they complement one another.

Rose oil is one of nature's most valuable botanical treasures.

Rose distillate is the most practical way to enjoy the beauty of the rose in everyday life.

That is why we have never viewed rose water as a by-product.

We have always regarded it as a valuable skincare product in its own right.

This philosophy continues to guide everything we produce today.

Because we believe true quality is determined not only by the raw material itself, but also by the philosophy behind its production.

To Akita, the rose is much more than a beautiful flower.

It represents the rich natural heritage of Isparta, decades of experience, and a commitment to sharing nature in its most authentic form.

Whether you choose our pure rose oil or our Rose Distillate, both are produced with the same dedication to craftsmanship, quality, and respect for nature.

We believe real rose water is more than a product.

It is the distilled expression of our respect for the rose itself.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why doesn't Akita separate all of the rose oil from its Rose Distillate?

Akita's production philosophy goes beyond simply extracting rose oil. Our goal is to preserve as much of the rose's naturally occurring aromatic character as possible while creating a botanical distillate suitable for everyday skincare. This approach is the result of many years of research and development.

Is Rose Distillate the same as rose essential oil?

No.

Rose essential oil and Rose Distillate are two different products that serve different purposes.

Rose oil is a highly concentrated essential oil used in very small quantities, while Rose Distillate is a botanical hydrosol designed for regular daily use.

Akita produces both using natural distillation methods and considers them complementary rather than alternatives.

What makes Akita's Rose Distillate different?

The difference lies in our production philosophy.

We use only Rosa damascena flowers and water, and perform an extended traditional distillation in copper stills. Our process focuses on preserving the natural character of the rose throughout production.

Why use Rose Distillate if rose oil already exists?

Rose oil is highly concentrated and typically requires careful dilution before use.

Rose Distillate can be applied throughout the day as a facial mist, toner, or refreshing skincare step, making it much easier to incorporate into a daily routine.

Does Akita produce both rose oil and Rose Distillate?

Yes.

Akita produces both pure Rosa damascena rose essential oil and Rose Distillate using traditional methods. Each serves different skincare needs while reflecting the same commitment to quality.

What ingredients are used in Akita's Rose Distillate?

Only two ingredients are used:

  • Rosa damascena flowers

  • Water

No alcohol, artificial fragrance, synthetic colorants, or preservatives are added.

Is Rose Distillate suitable for daily use?

Yes.

It can be used morning and evening as a facial toner, throughout the day as a refreshing facial mist, or whenever the skin needs a boost of freshness.

Why doesn't Akita consider Rose Distillate a by-product?

Because our production philosophy is fundamentally different.

Rather than viewing it as what remains after oil extraction, we develop Rose Distillate as a premium botanical skincare product with its own purpose and value.

What is the difference between rose water and Rose Distillate?

Not every product labeled "rose water" is produced the same way.

Some products are traditional hydrosols, while others may contain added fragrance or be manufactured using different processes.

Akita's Rose Distillate is produced exclusively from Rosa damascena flowers and water through an extended traditional distillation process. The name "Rose Distillate" reflects our unique production philosophy.

What does "Non-De-Oiled Rose Water" mean?

Non-De-Oiled Rose Water refers to a rose distillate in which the naturally occurring aromatic components formed during distillation are not intentionally stripped away through complete oil removal.

At Akita, the objective is to preserve the natural composition of the distillate as much as possible while producing a botanical product suitable for daily use.

Note: The term "Non-De-Oiled" does not mean the product contains the same concentration of oil as pure rose essential oil. It simply describes our production approach and our effort to preserve the naturally occurring components of the distillate.

Does rose water naturally contain rose oil?

That depends on how it is produced.

In conventional production, the rose oil is often separated from the distillate.

Some producers, however, choose to preserve the natural composition of the distillate instead.

For this reason, not all rose waters are the same. The production method plays a major role in determining the characteristics of the final product.

How can Rose Distillate be used in a skincare routine?

Rose Distillate can be applied to freshly cleansed skin as a toner, used throughout the day as a facial mist, or sprayed over makeup for a refreshing finish.

With regular use, it can become a simple and enjoyable part of a daily skincare routine.

Why is Akita's Rose Distillate produced differently?

Because our objective has never been simply to make conventional rose water.

Nearly thirty years ago, we set out to develop a production approach that would allow people to experience the natural beauty of the rose in a practical, everyday skincare product.

Today, we continue to use only Rosa damascena flowers and water, together with extended traditional distillation in copper stills, to produce what we proudly call Akita Rose Distillate.

Why does Akita produce both rose oil and Rose Distillate?

Because they serve different purposes.

Pure rose essential oil is an exceptionally concentrated botanical ingredient commonly used in formulations or diluted before topical use.

Rose Distillate is a gentle botanical hydrosol designed for everyday skincare.

To us, they are not substitutes, they are two complementary expressions of the same remarkable flower.
